The PlayStation 5 release date is currently the hottest topic in gaming, up there with the appearance of GTA 6 and the identity of the mysterious Pokemon being teased for Sword and Shield.
The current rumours suggest the PS5 will have a late 2020 release date. There's even speculation that the console could be revealed later this month.
Ahead of the PS5 console reveal, fans may have stumbled on a potential launch title for the next-gen gaming system.
According to a recent post on Reddit, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale could be getting a PS5 sequel. Better yet, the game is said to be a launch title for the PlayStation 5.
Titled PlayStation All-stars Arena, the game will reportedly be a 3D brawler developed in partnership with Capcom.
It's said to be a mixture of Dissidia and Power Stone with a target lock button, cel-shaded visuals and cartoonish environments.
Fans will allegedly be able to pick up a full-featured launch edition, or a free-to-play edition with a rotating roster of characters - similar to Killer Instinc
Sony is said to be viewing the game as a live service title, which means ongoing updates, events and content.
The original PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale was a fun game let down by a lack of iconic characters compared to something like Super Smash Bros.
The squel looks to combat this with an extended roster featuring more diverse characters.
Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon and Sir Daniel Fortesque are all tipped to appear, as well as Lara Croft, classic Solid Snake, Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter.
That's on top of returning fighters including Sackboy, Kratos and Nathan Drake, as well as modern day PlayStation icons including Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn, Ellie from The Last of Us and even Spider-Man.
It goes without saying that this rumour should be taken with a pinch of salt, although you can't blame fans for getting excited.
Launching in 2020, the PS5 will support 8K resolution, ray-tracing technology and have much faster loading times.
The speedy (or non-existent) loading times are possible thanks to the specialised solid-state drive, which will make a huge difference to processing speeds.
In Spider-Man on a PS4 Pro, for example, it can take upwards of 15 seconds to fast travel from one location to another. The PS5, on the other hand, will be able to handle the same task in less than a second.
Worlds can also be rendered at far greater speeds, which should inject more pace into games.
